The Me In You
The Me in You, a Belgium-based five-some, has crafted ‘Forgotten Clothes’ (release: 10/02/'12, Noisesome Recordings), a debut album chockfull of quietly beautiful melodies and enchanting vocal harmonies. The band (°2009) is firmly rooted in musical history, and embraces influences ranging from The Byrds to Sparklehorse. A first demo was picked up by Noisesome Recordings (Customs, Motek), which offered TMIY the chance to record its first album. Sessions were held at the famous La Chapelle studios, with producer Joris Caluwaerts (Zita Swoon, The Go Find) at the helm. ‘Forgotten Clothes’ was mixed by Bob Hermans (Stijn, The Go Find). Debut single ‘Girl in Armour’ was picked up by Studio Brussel and has so far spent quite a few weeks in De Afrekening, the station’s listener-selected singles list. Dutch music magazine Oor was very charmed by The Me in You. About ‘Girl in Armour’: “Plenty of sadness and summer night nostalgia. A song made for special memories.” The Me in You have played a number of wildly successful opening gigs for Customs at the end of 2011, both in Belgium (AB, Vooruit, MOD, Depot) and The Netherlands. Dutch television station VPRO noted in its 3 voor 12 online music magazine that “The Me in You play beautiful pop songs in the style of Sparklehorse, Novastar and Nick Drake. The songs and band sound as though the Flemish quintet has been performing for years: lovely harmonies, a wondrous atmosphere. The gorgeous ‘Low Battery’ sings on in memory, and single ‘Girl In Armour’ is equally beautiful. Let’s hope things move quickly for The Me in You as soon as the debut album is released. The band deserves it.”
